At Active-PCB Solutions, we are committed to nurturing talent. Earlier this week, we had the pleasure of welcoming five enthusiastic prospective candidates for our Engineering Technician Apprenticeship, offering them a glimpse into the exciting future they could build with us.
During their visit, the candidates met with our Head of Operations Phil Mansell, Head of Engineering Jason Hancock, and Technician and IPC Trainer Graham Court. They also toured our production floor, gaining firsthand insight into our operations, technologies, and company culture.

Their curiosity and thoughtful questions made for an engaging session, and we’re now looking forward to the next stage: interviews and onboarding, set to take place ahead of a September start.
What Is the Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Scheme?

Our apprenticeship is a hands-on, career-launching opportunity for those looking to develop a solid foundation in the electronics and manufacturing industry. It combines practical on-the-job experience with structured learning through day release at Basingstoke College of Technology, resulting in a comprehensive skill set and formal qualifications.
Apprentices work on-site four days a week at our Reading facility and spend one day per week at college, where they study toward a recognised engineering qualification.
What You Learn on an Engineering Technician Apprenticeship
As part of the scheme, Engineering Technician apprentices are embedded within our team and support a wide variety of activities across the business, including:
- Working safely and applying tested engineering techniques
- Setting up and using advanced measurement and diagnostic tools
- Performing inspections and maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and electronic components
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and technical problem solving
- Assisting with offline programming, process control, and production planning
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications
- Supporting documentation, quality control, and inspection activities
- Exploring emerging technologies such as 3D printing/additive manufacturing
This is not just about learning tools and systems; it’s about developing critical thinking, teamwork, and the confidence to contribute to real engineering solutions.

Why Choose an Apprenticeship with Active-PCB?
We offer more than just a placement, we offer a pathway. Apprentices who join us will be supported by experienced mentors, a structured training programme, and exposure to industry-standard practices and technologies.
Many of our apprentices go on to enjoy long and rewarding careers in engineering, manufacturing, and leadership roles.
We also proudly support T-Level students, such as our current cohort from Reading College, who are currently completing their placement with us until September.
Ready to start your journey?
A huge thank you to the students, staff, and everyone who made our recent apprentice welcome day such a success. We’re excited about what lies ahead and look forward to officially welcoming our new apprentices later this year.
